Timing

Psalm 130:5  "I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and in his word do I hope."  Our world seems to be spinning faster and faster, everyone is in a hurry.  You know the old saying, "time is money" and "he who hesitates is lost."  Our culture lives in a fast paced drive-thru mentality that wants every expectation met immediately.  Recently I've experienced the joy of driving through Miami during rush hour, several times.  I have to pray, "God give me grace-and protection!"
The Psalmist here is talking about waiting (not necessarily sitting around doing nothing) for God to move in our behalf while expressing trust in his word.  We are reminded time and again to wait on the Lord in the scriptures.  If you are a "doer" like me you know how difficult it is to wait on the Lord when you feel you know what needs to be done.  Another old saying states "timing is everything" and with God it is.  You may have a clear vision of  what you believe God wants you to do but He sees the whole picture.  The story of Abraham and Sarah is an excellent example of a man's attempt to carry out God's will at the wrong time (see Gen.16 and 17)  What a mess that has created!
When God gives vision, learn to be patient and let him bring it to pass in his own time.  This process will increase patience and discipline in our  lives and because he is faithful it will come about at the exact right time.
    God Bless,  Jim Skaggs

How can we know the Bible is Reliable?

2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."  How can we know the Bible is reliable?  The validity of the scriptures is under attack like never before.  Often those who claim to adhere to its tenets are looked on as ignorant and uninformed. Much of the prevailing attitude is the result of secular humanism but ultimately it is the attack of  Satan himself who hates the truth.
The Bible is an amazing book comprised of 66 books recorded by approximately 40 authors covering an approximate time frame of 4000 years.  The mere fact that 40 authors could agree on a common subject over that time span is amazing in itself.
The Bible is an accurate history book that names and locates many people groups such as the Egyptians,Syrians, Medes and Persians.  It speaks of their Kings and rulers and records significant events of those nations.
It is also book of geography.  I once visited a museum that was featuring relics and artifacts discovered at a digsite of the ancient city of Ur, the home of Abraham (Gen. 11:31).  The archeologist performing the excavation had used the Bible to locate this city.  Many of the cities and surrounding geographical features such as mountains and rivers can still be located today.
Finally, what I believe to be the most telling evidence in favor of the Bible is it's prophecies.  Prophecies of the coming messiah (Gen.3:15, Isa.7:14 and Isa.53), the crucifixion (Ps.22) and future nations and events(Dan.9) foretold hundreds of years in advance confirm the Bible to be accurate and truly inspired of God.  The Bible is filled with hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled and a relatively short few yet to take place and no matter what events occur we can take comfort in knowing God's Word, the Bible is true.

Hello everyone, I'm in the Florida Keys!
